NYCTC Hosted Three Successful “Battle In Seattle” House Parties in December, 2009!

Battle in Seattle Party in Albany
November 30, 2009 marked the 10th anniversary of the “Battle in Seattle” when 50,000 citizen activists shut down the World Trade Organization (WTO) meetings in Seattle, WA. NYCTC held educational forums using the anniversary as a rallying point for action to advance fair trade policies, including the TRADE Act (HR3012/S2821).

NYCTC Hosted Martha Giraldo Lucia Villano
Maria Giraldo Lucia VillanoMartha’s father was assassinated by the Colombian government and serves as a tragic example of the human rights abuses in that country. In cooperation with Witness for Peace New England, NYCTC arranged for Martha to visit South Glens Falls to share her story. Trade agreements between the United States and Colombia must be predicated on improved hman rights standards in Colombia.

Trade Turnaround Panel Discussion with Congresswoman Loiuse Slaughter
Thursday, January 28, 2010, 4-5 pm at the Workers United Hall, East Ave., Rochester.

Mexican Unionist Speaks Out in Albany Against NAFTA
Event: Benedicto Martinez, an official representative of the Frente Autentico del Trabajo or F.A.T., the major independent labor federation of Mexico, will speak in Albany about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Find out what happens when jobs are outsourced to low wage countries. The event is also aimed at raising funds to sponsor a delegation from F.A.T. to this year’s Labor Notes Conference on April 23-25 in Detroit. Donations will be accepted.

When: The event will be Monday, April 19, 2010 starting at 6:30 PM. Starting at 6:30PM hearty food and soda will be served. (Cash bar). Presentation by Benedicto Martinez will be made at 7 PM with an introduction by Robin Alexander of the United Electrical Workers Union.

Where: At Joe’s Grill located at 1044 Central Ave., Albany. (About one quarter mile past Westgate Shopping Center going towards Schenectady- Rte 5W)
